Cleveland State at Kent State, 7:30 PM ET

Current Line: Kent State -5.5

The Cleveland State Vikings take their 3-0 record out on the road tonight and travel to Kent Ohio to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes who are 2-0 this season.

Cleveland State enters this matchup tonight coming off a 3 point victory against St. Bonaventure in a game they had to fight back in the second half after being down by 5 going into halftime.

Cleveland State is led by senior guard D’Aundray Brown who is averaging 18.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 5.3 Steal per Game.  The Vikings are averaging 74.7 PPG ranking them 108th in the nation so far this season. Cleveland State has shoot very well from the field this season shooting 48.9 % ranking them 61st in the nation. The defense coming out of Cleveland State has been superb allowing teams to shoot just 40.5 % against them in which teams are averaging just 59.7 points per game ranking them 72nd in the nation.

Kent State comes into this matchup coming off a 19 point win over Alcorn State their last time out. Many people thought Kent State could have been in for a letdown considering their 10 point road upset a few nights before over West Virginia but the Golden Flashes showed no signs of letting up.

The Golden Flashes are led by senior forward Justin Greene (12.0 PPG, 7.5 RPG) and senior guard Michael Porrini (11.5 PPG, 4.5 APG). Kent State has been dominating their opponents by playing stingy defense in which they are allowing just 59.0 points per game while teams shoot just 34.5 % from the field and 27.5 % from the three point arc on them. The offense has produced at a high level averaging 73.5 points per game while shooting 48.3 % from the field and 41.4 % from behind the arc. Kent State is shooting 74.2 % from the free throw line which is always a positive when you play in matchup of two top teams that expect a game to be decided by just a few points.

Cleveland State historically is not a very spectacular road team especially as an underdog. Look for the veteran Kent State squad to cause too many matchup problems for the Vikings and pull out the win and the cover tonight.

Pick:

Kent State -5.5

Portland at UC Santa Barbara, 10:00 PM ET

Current Line: UC Santa Barbara -11.5

The Portland Pilots take their 2-2 record on the road tonight down to Santa Barbara to take on the 3-0 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.

Portland comes into this matchup tonight looking to rebound off back to back losses to Washington State and Washington in which they failed to shoot above 40% in either of the games.

Portland is led by their sharp shooting guards Nemanja Mitrovic (11.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG) and Tim Douglas (11.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG and 3.5 APG). The back to back losses for the Pilots have been due to the poor defense they have been playing allowing 88 points per game in their two loses. In the two victories for Portland they allowed just 63 points per game. The offense for Portland has not been anything spectacular this season averaging just 68 points per game while shooting 40.7% from the field but a horrendous 27.3 % from behind the arc.

UC Santa Barbara enters this matchup on a 3 game winning streak to start the season which is not a real surprise considering that the Gauchos were picked to finish in the top 3 in the Big West Conference.

UC Santa Barbara is led by the three headed monster of senior guard Orlando Johnson (18.3 PPG, 5.7 RPG), senior forward James Nunnally (20.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG) and sophomore guard Kyle Boswell (12.7 PPG, 3.3 RPG) whom is playing the sixth man role extremely well. The Gauchos have played extremely well this season on both ends of the court which is why they are 3-0 so far. UC Santa Barbara is averaging 81.7 PPG while shooting 50.6 % from the field in which they are ranked 29th in the nation. The defense coming from the Gauchos has played outstanding allowing just 55 points per game (30th in the nation) while allowing teams to shoot just 37 % from the field ranking them 57th in the nation.

This is a lot of points to be lying with the Gauchos, but Portland’s defense has struggled a bit the last two games and now must go on the road and contain a team that averages over 80 points a game and shoots over 50%. I will lay the points and look for Portland to get blown out yet again.

Pick:

UC Santa Barbara -11.5

Boise State at Long Beach State, 10:05 PM ET

Current Line: Long Beach State -9.5

The Boise State Broncos take their undefeated 3-0 record out on the road tonight to take on the 2-1 Long Beach State 49ers.

The Broncos come into tonight’s matchup overpowering their opponents this season in which they are 3-0 with a winning margin of 38 points per game.

Boise State is led by the freshman duo of guard Derrick Marks (13.3 PPG, 4.0 RPG) and forward Anthony Drmic (15.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG).  Boise States offense has been the key to the hot start which they are averaging 92.7 PPG ranking them 3rd in the nation. The Broncos are shooting 52.9 % from the field ranking 11th and shooting 44.6 % from behind the arc in which they rank 21st. The defense is allowing just 54.7 points per game ranking them 26th in the nation and the Broncos are allowing just 20 rebounds per game ranking them 3rd in the nation.

Long Beach State enters tonight’s matchup coming off a disappointing 4 point loss at San Diego State their last time out on the court. Many people are shocked by how well the 49ers handled themselves their last time out considering they went on the road a few nights before and knocked off then 9th ranked Pittsburgh on the Panthers home court.

Long Beach State is led this season by their dynamic guard combo senior Casper Ware (24.7 PPG, 3.0 RPG and 5.3 APG) and senior Larry Anderson (17.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 4.7 APG).  The offense for the 49ers has led this team thus far on the season. Long Beach State is averaging 76.0 Points per game while shooting 47.9 % from the field. The defense has not been anything spectacular allowing 71.3 points per game while teams are shooting 44.8 from the field on them. The 49ers have though been solid on the boards allowing teams just 28.7 rebounds per game against them ranking them 88th in the nation.

Boise has not played that tough of competition while Long Beach State has had a rough schedule to start the season. Bettors are taking notice to this Long Beach State team and I have a feeling oddsmakers are starting to make adjustments.  This might be a tad bit too many points against this Boise Team though.  Grab the points look for Boise State to keep this closer than what people think.

Pick:

Boise State +9.5
