Running through the player prop lines for the big Kentucky/Louisville game Saturday, one line in particular did ‘knot’ look correct – the tie colors for the head coaches.  Similar to political debates & parties, when these coaches face off they typically don a tie that flashes their school’s colors.

However, the current bet at Bovada is as follows:

So, Bovada’s line indicates Rick Pitino, coach of Louisville, is likely to wear a BLUE tie. And John Calipari, coach of Kentucky, will wear a RED tie. Now, Pitino and Calipari have a well-known dislike for each other; and Kentucky vs. Louisville is a well-known intra-state rivalry, so the chance that each coach will wear the color of the opposite team is, by our estimate, ZERO POINT ZERO percent.

The ‘no’ at +250 is free money and sports books aren’t generally in the business of giving out free money. Instead, this line is most certainly an error on Bovada’s behalf, and will likely be corrected shortly.

Sadly, there’s no line on knot types for the ties in question, but if they do sprout up, we’re on  Pitino with a Windsor and Calapari with a half Windsor.

Update:

Amazingly, Bovada has adjusted the line on this tie color prop bet but hasn’t flipped the line. Now, the ‘no’ is +200 instead of +250. Yes, that is still free money.

Second Update:

Bovada has changed the prop bet and now they expect Pitino to wear a red tie and Calipari to wear a blue tie.

One Response to “Knot Bad: Bovada Offers Ridiculously Favorable Pitino/Calapari Necktie Bet”

I was about to bet this last night when it was +250, would have unloaded my whole bank account on it if I could. What I wonder and what kept me from betting it was if they were going to Null the bet because it was a mistake. Would love to know if anyone who bet it what Bovada did after they found their mistake.
