Current Line: Creighton -3

Creighton Bluejays (8-1 SU, 4-1 ATS) head out on the road tonight to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (5-6 SU, 4-4 ATS) in this non-conference matchup.

Creighton enters tonight’s matchup coming off a 35 point victory over Houston Baptist after losing their only game this season against St. Joes.

Creighton this season has dominated their opponents with the high powered offense that they are playing. The Bluejays this season have scored more than 80 points in six of their nine games this season. Creighton is averaging 86.3 points per game ranking them 4th in the nation. The Bluejays have done an outstanding job shooting the ball in which they are shooting 50.8% from the field ranking 7th in the nation and 43.3% from beyond the arc good for 4th in the nation. Creighton has done a great job rebounding in which they are averaging 38.2 rebounds per game ranking them 68th in the nation. Leading the Bluejays offense this season is forward Greg McDermott (24.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG) and guard Antoine Young (9.9 PPG, 4.3 APG).

Creighton’s defense has not been all that spectacular but who needs great defense when you outscore your opponents by 17.7 points per game. Creighton this season is allowing 68.6 points per game in which opponents are shooting 43.4% from the field and 34.7% from beyond the arc. Opponents have struggles from the line against Creighton shooting just 60.8% and opponents have averaged just 29.4 rebounds per game against the Bluejays.

Tulsa enters this matchup tonight looking to get some momentum going after picking up an five point overtime win over Texas Arlington their last time out on the court that ended a four game losing streak for the Golden Hurricanes.

Tulsa this season has not been very impressive on the offensive side of the ball where they are averaging just 65.9 points per game and have only scored more than 70 points twice this season. Tulsa this season is shooting 43.3% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. The strength of this Tulsa offense has been the rebounding in which they are averaging 38.7 rebound per game ranking them 52nd in the nation. Leading the Golden Hurricanes offense this season is guard Jordan Clarkson (15.5 PPG, 5.1 RPG), guard Scottie Haralson (12.5 PPG) and forward Steven Idelt (10.5 PPG, 5.7 RPG).

Tulsa’s defense this season has not been all that horrible. The Golden Hurricanes are allowing just 63.3 points per game in which opponents are shooting just 39.9% from the field ranking them 83rd in the nation. Opponents have had success from beyond the arc against Tulsa this season shooting 34.6% but rebounding has been a struggle for Tulsa’s opponents averaging just 26.5 per game ranking the Golden Hurricanes 21st in the nation.

At first glimpse you would think Creighton should easily take this game but Tulsa should be able to compete with this Bluejays team for at least the first half. Creighton though just has too much talent and by the end of the game the Golden Hurricanes will be on the end of another lose. Play the road favorite in this one and look for Creighton to prove why they are a top 25 team when all is said and done.

Southern Mississippi at Arizona State

10:00 PM ET
Current Line: S. Mississippi -1.5

Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (8-2 SU, 5-4 ATS) head out on the road to take on the struggling Arizona State Sun Devils (4-6 SU, 3-7 ATS).

Southern Miss comes into this matchup riding a four game winning streak in which they picked up a four point win over interstate rival Mississippi their last time on the court.

Southern Miss has put them in a great position to start the season by playing great offense a solid defense. The offense for the Golden Eagles this season is averaging 75.1 points per game ranking them 67th in the nation in which they are shooting 43.8% from the field and 40.7% from beyond the arc good for 23rd in the nation. The free throw shooting has been outstanding thus far for Southern Miss in which they are shooting 79.3% from the line ranking them 4th in the nation. Leading the offense for the Golden Eagles is guard LaShay Page (14.8 PPG), guard Angelo Johnson (13.5 PPG, 4.1 RPG), guard Maurice Bolden (12.3 PPG, 6.8 RPG) and guard Neil Watson (11.4 PPG, 3.9 APG).

The defense being played by the Golden Eagles has been good enough to get them to 8-2. The Golden Eagles are allowing 65.1 points per game but has allowed just 57 points per game in true road games this season. Opponents this season are shooting 42.9% from the field and 38.7% from beyond the arc against them this season. Arizona State this season has struggled to get the offense going on a consistence basis. The offense for the Sun Devils has not scored more than 68 points in any of their last five games. Arizona State this season is averaging just 65.7 points per game in which they are shooting 46.3% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. Leading this Sun Devils offense is guard Trent Lockett (13.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG), guard Keala King (13.2 PPG, 3.1 APG) and guard Carrick Felix (11.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG).

Arizona State defense has actually played decent basketball this season. The Sun Devils are allowing 65.2 points per game in which opponents are shooting just 39.3% from the field against them ranking them 64th in the nation. Arizona State has only allowed more than 70 points twice this season out of their 10 games they have played. Opponents have though had success shooting the three ball hitting 37.8% from beyond the arc against ASU ranking them 301st in the nation.

This is an interesting matchup this evening. Southern Miss has played very well this season to start and you would think they should be a bigger road favorite then 1.5 points but ASU has played outstanding defense and with being at home could cause some problems for the Golden Eagles. Southern Miss though should be able to stop the struggling ASU offense which they should prevail to pick up a win and an ATS cover. Play the small road favorite in this one to get the win.

UC Santa Barbara at California

Current Line: California -10.5

UC Santa Barbara Gauchos (5-3 SU, 3-3 ATS) head out on the road tonight with another tough matchup this one being with the California Golden Bears (9-2 SU, 6-3 ATS).

UC Santa Barbara enters tonight matchup coming off a 7 point road loss to Washington their last time out on the court.

The Gauchos offense this season has been the strength to this team. UC Santa Barbara is averaging 79.5 points per game ranking them 24th in the nation while shooting 46.9% from the field good for 59th in the nation and 36.9% from beyond the arc ranking them 86th in the nation. The Gauchos have had success rebounding the ball this season averaging 40.5 per game ranking them 19th in the nation. Leading this offense for UC Santa Barbara is guard Orlando Johnson (22.4 PPG, 7.2 RPG), guard James Nunnally (17.0 PPG, 5.6 RPG) and forward Jaime Serna (10.9 PPG, 4.6 RPG).

The defense being played by UC Santa Barbara this season has been their downfall to just five wins. The Gauchos are allowing 69 points per game but in their three losses they have allowed 85.7 points per game. Opponents this season are shooting 40.5% from the field and 32.9% from beyond the arc against the Gauchos.

California enters tonight’s matchup riding a three game winning streak in which they are outscoring their opponents by an average of 30.7 points per game.

California’s offense this season is averaging 72.7 points per game in which they are shooting 48% from the field ranking them 37th in the nation and 42.1% from beyond the arc ranking them 8th in the nation. Free throw shooting has been great for Cal this season in which they are shooting 75% from the line and have averaged 37.9 rebounds per game.  Leading the Cal offense is guard Allen Crabbe (15.8 PPG, 5.8 RPG), guard Jorge Gutierrez (13.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG and 3.8 APG) and guard Justin Cobbs (10.8 PPG, 4.6 APG).

California’s defense though has been the strength of this team this season. The Golden Bears are allowing just 56.5 points per game ranking them 17th in the nation in which eight of their eleven opponents have scored 57 or less points. Opponents this season have shot just 37.9% from the field ranking them 33rd in the nation and 32.8% from beyond the arc. Cal’s opponents this season are averaging just 25.5 rebounds per game ranking Cal 7th in the nation.

I am a fan of this UC Santa Barbara team but they are going to have their hands full tonight with a very good California team that is 6-2 ATS this season as a favorite. California was able to hold the nation’s leading scorer Damian Lillard (Weber State 25.4 PPG) to just 14 points Orlando Johnson could have problems with this great defense that Cal plays. Lay the points with this Cal team who should shut down this UC Santa Barbara offense and get the win and cover in this matchup.
