Today, the Los Angeles Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown after a lackluster 1-4 start to the season. And, within hours, online sports book Sports Interaction has posted on odds on who will fill the job.
The favorite? Well, the field is -303. But the individual favorite? Mike D’Antoni at +250. D’Antoni won the Coach of the Year award in 2004-05 with the Phoenix Suns and coached the Knicks from 2008-2012. He’s known for his fast-paced offensive approach which may be a good fit for the Lakers.
Right behind D’Antoni is the one-and-only Phil Jackson. All Jackson’s done is win 11 NBA championships (and one Coach of the Year award.) Will he come back to coach the Lakers again? Seems unlikely.
Brian Shaw and Nate McMillan are both 8:1 to take over the Lakers while Jeff Van Gundy is 18:1. And Lakers assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff is 20:1 to take over the reigns as full-time head coach.
